The online and print publication for students will spread the world about the charity and help us raise awareness of mouth cancer among young people. Support received from the magazine is very important for us as mouth cancer is a debilitating disease which affects more and more people regardless of age.

Changing sexual behaviour has increasingly contributed to the rise of cancers that occur in the back regions of the mouth-around the base of the tongue, the back of the throat, the tonsils and the tonsillar pillars. They can be deadly and affect more men than women.

The tooth, which once belonged to the guitarist’s former housekeeper Dot Jarlett, was bought by Canadian dentist Michael Zuk for £19,000. It was made into three necklaces-one of which is being displayed at 16 dental practices around the UK. As the necklace arrives at each practice, people coming to take a look at it are being offered free screenings for mouth cancer.

Torbay Hospital has become the first in the country to provide robotic surgery for throat and mouth cancers. This innovative surgery was made possible by a generous donation from the Hospital’s League of Friends and means a less invasive procedure for patients, with a quicker recovery time and fewer side effects. Here at the charity we were saddened to hear of the death of the great American actor Jack Klugman. Jack, who was 90, starred in the 1970s hit TV series The Odd Couple and Quincy M.E. The actor lost his voice to throat cancer in the 1980s but later trained himself to speak again.

The actor, who won fame as J. R. Ewing on the hit show, announced that he had a ‘treatable’ form of throat cancer in October 2012. He received treatment while filming the new Dallas series which started airing in June of this year.
