Today, Thursday 31 January 2019, is Young Carers Awareness Day.

Each year the Carers Trust organises this special day to recognise the efforts of young carers. The purpose of the day is to raise public awareness of the challenges faced by young people because of their caring role, and to campaign for greater support for young carers and their needs.

Being a young carer is a risk factor for the mental health of children and young people so this year Young Carers Awareness Day 2019 will focus on mental health. Although mental health is the main focus this year, there are thousands of young people out there looking after cancer patients, including loved ones with head and neck cancer. We would like to take a moment to recognised the great work that these young people do.
