As lockdown restrictions ease Kim and Dave Winterton from the Preston & Chorley Districts Laryngectomee Association are finally able to send us a photo of them handing over some boogie boards to the Speech and Language Department at the RPH Preston Hospital for use by patients who have had their operations during COVID-19.
You may remember, last year, we brought you the story of the Lancashire based Support Group, when they won a £1000 grant to integrate patients back into society after life changing operations, as well as the provision of boogie boards, in the 2020 Support Group Awards.
Kim says “These 3 ladies are wonderful and we are very lucky to have them. It has been really hard this last 18 months as due to COVID we’re unable to go in and meet the patients face to face. We usually explain a little about how the patients may feel and that surgery affects the entire family and possible meet family members. Patients during the pandemic have had to go through this alone. The team at this regional hospital of excellence, really appreciates the boogie boards for their patients”.
The Mouth Cancer Foundation is delighted to see our grants going to such good use.
