Mouth Cancer Foundation Attended Britain Against Cancer Conference
On 11th December, our Patient Representative, Steve Harris, attended the highly anticipated 14th Britain Against Cancer Conference which took place at Central Hall in Westminster.
As 2012 has been a year of transition for the NHS, this year’s conference focused on what action needs to be taken to ensure that patients’ outcomes and experiences continually improve. This is especially important because at the moment NHS has a poor record on early diagnosis with 25% of patients being diagnosed in A & E departments. In addition, planned changes to Cancer Networks such as funding cuts will not be favourable to cancer patients.
The conference was opened by John Baron, MP and Chairman of the All Party Parliamentary Group On Cancer which organised the event. Key decision makers behind the reforms in the NHS and top health opinion formers including Andy Burnham, Professor Sir Mike Richards, Jeremy Hunt, Julietta Patnick, Alastair McLellan and Dr Jane Atherton also attended the event and shared their views on cancer policy.
