BLOOD BASED CANCER DETECTION WILL BE A REALITY

Some highly encouraging and positive news during the Covid-19 crisis is that a ‘blood-based cancer detection scheme will be a reality’. 

The test works by ‘looking for tell tale chemical changes to bits of genetic code – cell free DNA – that leak from tumours into the bloodstream’ At present,’ 96% of samples that came back even named the type of cancer as well as identifying its existence’
 

‘More than 50 types of cancer, such as bowel, lung and ovarian were included’

So far Researchers from Dana-Faber Cancer Institute, The Francis Crick Institute and University College London have tested more than’ 4,000 samples from patients – some with and without cancer’
